The random thoughts of a Christian parrot
I live in quite a rural area, not far from the sea. In some parts, there are wild, rugged fields grazed by sheep which run right up to the edge of the sea, or in some cases, sea cliffs. I heard this story the other day, and thought I’d share it with you.
A careless sheep went too close to the edge of a local cliff, and slipped over. It finished up stuck on a narrow ledge some twenty feet down. The farmer was alerted, but did nothing, He simply carried on with his other duties. In fact, the sheep lay there for three whole days and nights before the farmer eventually abseiled down the cliff to rescue it. By this time, it had become very weak and lackluster. As the farmer brought the sheep safely back to the top of the cliff, a passer-by came up to him and criticized him for not reacting sooner. But the farmer calmly replied that had he attempted the rescue any sooner, the sheep would probably have jumped to its death. He had to wait for it to become tired and exhausted in order to rescue it successfully.
Sometimes in our own lives, we can find ourselves imploring God to help us, yet nothing seems to happen. But, like that sheep, and the passer-by, we don’t understand the full picture. God always works in God’s time. He will help us when the time is right, or if it is in our best interests. And we simply have to hand our problems over to Him with an open, trusting heart.
The Bible tells us this, time and time again…..
“Trust in the Lord and do good….” (Psalm 37:3)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart….” (Proverbs 3:5)
“Trust in the Lord for ever….” (Isaiah 26:4)
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me….” (John 14:1)
“I will put my trust in Him….” (Hebrews 2:13)
Real trust, -especially trust in adversity, -is a rare and priceless treasure that will make God love us even more……….
