Coco Calling: No. 61 - Favourite nooks and crannies

The random thoughts of a Christian parrot

I’m an irrepressible bird, so I love to go exploring around the house. And I always get very excited if I find some nook or cranny that I can squeeze into. I suppose these places serve as potential nest sites, look-out posts and roosting spots. But not only that; they are also places where I feel comfortable and safe. You see, just like many humans, parrots like to feel safe and secure. The world around us is not a Garden of Eden; we exist in a world of predator and prey, threat and menace. So we grab every opportunity that we can to “feel safe.”

And so it is for humans. They like to feel safe in their houses by locking their doors and windows. They take out insurance policies. They invent clever devices such as seat belts and circuit breakers and smoke alarms. These things are all very helpful and good to have around, but ultimately, there is only one way in which we can guarantee our long-term safety and survival. And that is the insurance policy, safety net and support harness offered to us by Jesus.

Yes, we can all make our lives here on Earth a little bit safer and more comfortable, but only Jesus can ultimately deliver us from all of the threats, anxieties and troubles of our world.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And…….I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

(John 14: 1-3)
