Hello everyone! Yours truly is back from a two week stay on the wonderful Isles of Scilly. Lots of humans migrate there over the Summer months in order to wind down and relax, and to reconnect with Nature. After a high tide, a gentle stroll along any of the golden beaches reveals a cornucopia of different treasures washed up by the retreating waves. Being a parrot, I like anything brightly coloured, so my favourites are the vivid orange and yellow periwinkle shells. But there are also painted top shells, dog whelks, cuttlebones, jellyfish, fish egg cases and if you’re really lucky, sea urchin shells, starfish and even tiny cowries.
Humans like to wander up and down on the sand, picking up anything that’s shiny and beautifully formed. And they end up stuffing their pockets full of the finest looking shells and reject the ones that are dull or broken.
When we all run the course of our lives here on Earth, we too will end up like those shells on the high tide line. There’ll be many thousands of us, all piled up in an endless heap. But there’s one key difference. Because when Jesus comes along, He’ll gather up everyone that’s willing to be rescued, -even those of us that are broken or imperfect. He’s not just interested in the biggest and the best; the shiniest or most perfectly formed. And that’s why Jesus really is the ultimate Saviour of all living things. He sees the value in every one of us, even when we don’t recognise it ourselves. And because of his love for all and sundry, He’ll be there for each one of us at the very end….
“Don’t undervalue yourself. God loves you. Your worth is what you are worth to God. Jesus died for you. You are of infinite value.”
(Nicky Gumbel: [1955 – present]: English Anglican Priest and author who developed the Alpha course)
“No matter what storm you face, you need to know that God loves you. He has not abandoned you."
(Franklin Graham: [1952-present]: American evangelist and son of Billy Graham)
“But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.”
